A cat costs 43% of a dog's premium in Insurify's Tennessee figures ($18 against $42). Nationally, NAPHIA's 2025 averages are $69.67 a month for a dog and $36.25 for a cat on accident-and-illness cover, so Tennessee's Insurify dog median is 40% less than the national dog average. Within the Pawlicy quotes for Tennessee, the middle half runs from $24.55 to $57.69, a band 80% as wide as the median, because age, breed and coverage choices spread prices within one state.
How many Tennessee pets are insured
NAPHIA's 2025 figures place 1.3% of all insured US pets in Tennessee (24th of 51) and 1.1% of the premium written. Its share of premium is smaller than its share of pets, so the average Tennessee policy brings in less premium than the US average policy. Pet insurance is regulated by each state; the Tennessee insurance department is the free route for checking an insurer's licence or filing a complaint, reachable from the NAIC directory.
Premiums against a vet bill in Tennessee
Trupanion's published average claim for a torn cruciate ligament is $5,439. At Tennessee's Insurify dog median of $42 a month and a policy with a $250 deductible and 80% reimbursement, the policy pays $4,151, the owner pays $1,288 of the bill plus $504 in premiums: $1,792 for the year against $5,439 uninsured. With no claim the premiums are simply spent. The break-even bill is $880 a year for a dog and $520 for a cat at the Insurify medians.
